Week 1
Last week I bought a new desktop system, based around an asus pundut-r and a 3.0GHz P4. It's a nice little setup, combined with a dvd+/-rw and a 120Gb SATA drive is quite nippy. I'm running Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary) and pretty much everything seems to be working really well, just a few problems for me to sort with sound. The only thing yet to do is transfer stuff from the hard drive of the demised Xerxes - power is only supplied to two devices. I'll post some things on here about the setup I have running another time, but the best thing at the moment is the backport of Beagle from Breezy (which launches soon). Beagle is a Linux desktop search in Alpha development which seems to work quite well so far. The crawling is slower than google's windows tool (which has been reinstalled along with everything on my laptop) but searching is snappy and (I think) accurate. It has a plugin to record (firefox) web history and parses mail well (thunderbird). On another note entirely, I have survived one whole week of teaching at Arden. My classes seem to be quite good, though there are a few I've not managed to meet yet because of our funny first week timetablePosted by hounddog32 at September 12, 2005 08:48 PM
