Thunderbird SMTP issues

I've been happily using thunderbird for email now for quite a while, no issues. Until today, when (using the buttons extension) I was messing about with SMTP servers, changing and removing them while editing an email to send. Not good! When I sent the mail, i got an error message that said
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to connect to SMTP server %S. The server may be down or may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your Mails/News account settings are correct and try again
Googling did me no good really, most of the hits it threw up for the section of error message I chose were for netscape mail, and a few for mozilla. I eventually solved it by going to tools > account settings then for each account clicking on "Server Settings" then the "Advanced..." button. There you can choose which of several SMTP servers the account defaults to - set that to always be default and all is solved! Yey!

On an additional note, people running Mcafee Virusscan might have the scanner setup to block the default smtp port. The scanner will make exceptions for 'known' Email clients based on their process executable's file name. However, whereas "thunderbird.exe" is excluded from the smtp block, the process "THUNDE~1.EXE" is not. This is what was causing the same 'could not connect to SMTP server' error on my PC occasionally, adding this process name to the list of excluded processes worked just fine & solved my problem.
