Thunderbird 1.0 and Outlook 2003
I have been using firefox for several months and love it. IE is relegated to quirks testing for web design and I won't look back until MS IE 7 is released, if ever. Killers for me are the extedability, speed and standards compliancy. And I like the philosophy of open source, so I'm all sold.
Thunderbird took longer to win me over - I've actually quite liked using Outlook XP and 2003, especially the sync function with my palm and (lately) nokia. However, as an advocate and typecast anti-Microsoft commie, i decided to take the plunge and migrate.
Download and install are painless, as you would expect. Setting up an account equally easy - at least as good as Outlook Express or 2003. Importing mail caused more of a problem, especially as i had several .pst files sitting in outlook from the last year or three which i wanted to keep in my email client to be able to read. So i naively fire up the import routine, import from outlook. Guess what, it crashed. Of all the fixes i found, the make outlook default came up most, and didn't help me. I tried installing mail navigator trial version, but that crashed importing from Outlook. In the end i decided to import each .pst individually into OE and then import from there to TB. Hassle, but it worked.
I'll keep using TB, i love the junk filters already and may update how it's all working. One question on my mind at the moment is Google Desktop Search - will I keep it now?
